John Lindquist, one of the principal sculptors of Maui Crystal, was born in Minnesota in 1980. He was raised with a great appreciation for the outdoors and the earth's natural beauty. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth for four years, and during that time, he discovered lampworking on a trip to Vancouver, British Columbia. Lindquist was self-taught for three years, doing small art shows and displaying his work at Paragis Outfitters in Ely, Minnestoa. Then in 2004, John moved to Maui and stumbled upon a little shop called Maui Crystal in Lahaina. For the past six years, John has traveled the nation trading techniques with glass shops and fellow craftsmen.
The artist says, "I try to find the beauty in everything around me, whether it's a gigantic waterfall, a vibrant sunset, or just the way the colors swirl in my ice cream. I chose to work with glass because for me, the medium just clicks. I can create beautiful sculpture with vibrant colors and strong line as well as achieve very cool optical effects with the clear glass."
