Irakli was born in 1954 in Zestaphoni, Georgia. In 1981, he graduated from Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts winning first place at the annual competition of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR for the "Best Drawing of the Year." In 1983 as the "best of the year" student was awarded an internship in the Creative Studio of Tbilisi Academy of Fine Arts. In 1996 he won a Special Award and recognition at the International Art Festival in Tbilisi. Today, he is one of Georgia's most established contemporary artists and has participated in exhibitions in Russia, Germany, France, USA, Austria and Azerbaijan.
When you visit Images Gallery on Maui, you will see first hand the great effect of Irakli's compositions is achieved with as many as sixteen translucent layers of color on canvas that have been traditionally prepared with gesso. He then creates a complex textured effect by subtly revealing the undercoats of color. After the last layer is applied, the surface is coated with a unique transparent glaze. It is truly wonderful to view.
His Art Collections can be found in Gertsev Gallery, Moscow, Russia, TMS Art Gallery, Tbilisi, Georgia and The National Gallery of Georgia. Private collectors include: Eduard Shevardnadze - President of Georgia, Suleiman Demireli – Past President of Turkey and Philip Remler - Ambassador of USA in Georgia.
