As
long as I can remember, I enjoyed creating art.
When I was 8-10 years old, my parents enrolled
me in a local community summer arts program.
We would go to various locations within the
city and parks to paint. I still enjoy the memories
of trundling off in the morning with my little
tin paint box and brushes eager to capture the
day. I also remember the accolades from tourist
and locals alike who would happen upon us. I
felt special.
Working my trade as a heavy equipment operator
and truck driver and later as a contractor in
the road construction business often took me
away from home for much of the year. In 1996,
the tedium of living in camps or motels saw
me searching for something to occupy my evenings
and mind. I decided to start painting again.
This changed my life. Once again I began to
relish my surroundings and was able to express
myself again.
Still painting as a hobby, I entered numerous
art shows both juried and not. Success here
brought me confidence and encouragement to continue
honing my skills.
In 1998, Wendy ,my wife, suggested I give up
work and devote my attentions to being an artist.
I did. To this day I still arise every morning
and pinch myself. I get to do this!
